ISAAC SAMUEL DUNN

Hi All this is Isaac's new web site.

Here's a link to Zac's Gallery, updated 17th October

A big thanks to everyone who has helped out, sent cards and wishes, visited and generally thought about us, we are all most grateful. Due to Isaac's delicate condition at the moment I doubt we will be about much until the end of the season we hope to thank you all in person then.

Was born on Friday 28th of April at 1.18am by emergency caesarean section at a mere 27 and a bit weeks gestation. Lesley had been in hospital since the Monday after falling ill over the weekend. On Thursday (28th) the diagnosis was of a severe form of preeclampsia. This was putting her in grave danger so they had to operate immediately.

Isaac at birth weighed 860g (around 1lb 14oz). He is now doing very well at the neonatal intensive care unit at Kings Mill hospital near Mansfield.

Current news:-

29th May 2006

Last Thursday (18th) after his oxygen requirements had been going up, we were told that he had cronic lung disease. Quite common among prems but still serious. They said that growth was the main treatment. They increased his feeds by adding a protein product to the expressed breast milk.

Today Isaac is still on CPAP (a sort of ventilator) some of the time and off for as long as he can manage at a time. Sometimes he manages 12 hours or so before needing help. He has put on weight over the last few days and now is 990g (about 2lb 3oz) His oxygen reuirement has gone down steadily over the last week and he is generally better than he was. He has picked up an infection, which has caused him a few ups and downs but it is being treated and he seems very well in himself. When we left him this evening he was off CPAP and very relaxed and settled wiht very little extra oxygen.

Basicly the doctors are happy with him. We were told to expect some worries along the way. The lung thing was very horrid at the time but he seems to be doing well.

We may be moved to Chesterfield at some time but not until this infection has cleared up.

30th May 2006

He's having a blood transfusion today, this is quite normal and nothing to be alarmed about. When we left he had been off CPAP for about 25hours and was looking very happy and settled.

5th June 2006

We have been moved to Chesterfield. This happened yesterday morning. Lesley was only told the day before. I was away at the time at a show so it was quite upsetting for us both. When we were there today though it was not so bad. He was very relaxed and happy. He is off the CPAP mask now, hopefully for good, and his oxygen requirement has been going down gradually. We both had cuddles today. His weight was 1120g yesterday, well over the bag of sugar mark. I'll put some new photos up in a day or two. He really looks much bigger and chunkyer than the last time I saw him on Wednesday evening.

10th June 2006

Had a good day today. Yesterday he was struggling a bit and we eventually got them to change his feeds back to what they were at Mansfield as he had lost a little weight. Today he was looking really fab and only needing a very little oxygen.

27th June 2006

Great news. Zac was moved into a heated cot yesterday so no more incubator we hope. He reached 3lb 5oz when he was weighed. He has also managed a couple of proper breast feeds. He needs very little o2 now sometimes a little when he has just fed or has wind.

This is the crucial thing now. He needs to be feeding on demand and not by tube before he is allowed home. Lets hope that isn't too long.

12th July 2006

Zac has now been out of the heated cot for some time, he was only in it for about a week. He was totally of o2 for quite a while but they put him back on for a week and took him off again on Monday 10th. He has been fine without it since, we are pretty sure he has fnished with that. He is breast feeding very well now and taking cup feeds during the night when awake enough. We hope the tube will not be used for much longer, if at all. He now weighs a vast 3lb 13oz and is being weighed again tomorrow. The really big news is that we hope to have him home somtime during the next two weeks.

HE'S HOME!!!

Sorry to all that I have not updated for ages the computer has been down for ages. Just got sorted.

He finally was allowed out on Sunday 23rd July. We had been staying overnight on the unit for a week, the staff kept saying he would be home any day. We were not absolutely sure he was coming home until that morning. So we have now had him for two whole weeks. He has been fine mostly, just the ususal, a couple of worries when we had to ring the unit. Firstly he got really swolen feet, secondly he got  a bit of blood in his nappy. Both times they told us to go in to get him checked out but all was fine. He isn't doing so well on breast feeding so he is on bottles of some expressed and some formula but that he is guzzling and he is finally putting weight on well. He weighs in at 5lb 15oz, and still fab obviously.

17th October 2006

Havn't updated for ages again, no excuse this time just that I didn't. We have some good new photos now from Holiday in Weymouth last weeksee the gallery.

Zac is nearly six months now and well over 10lbs. We are weaning him, he particularly likes parsnips! We are getting lots of smiles and he is getting alot more active. He has started sleeping through which is great. Generally he is pretty fab. If you are at the market next week you will get to see him there.
